Agro-waste revalorization for sustainable carbon-based current collectors generation via LIG technique (AGRECO)

High Risk-High Gain, BCMaterials projects.

From: 01/2023 to: 06/2023

Coordinator: Marina Navarro-Segarra

Budget: 5.000 Euro

Project description:

The main objective of AGRECO is to develop carbon-based current collectors from revalorized agrowaste to be implemented in biodegradable batteries. The current collectors will be engraved via Laser-Induced-Graphene (LIG) technique, a low-cost and low-energy demanding method that allows graphene generation on top of a large variety of substrates. Polymer valorisation will be performed via bio-refinery and green-chemistry methods from agroindustry waste.

AGRECO  has been conceptualized on the basis of the ‘think globally, act locally’ philosophy, a strategy to address transboundary environmental problems from well-defined actions at a local level. The actions herein proposed aim to contribute to the global transformation and naturalization of the battery concept.

The coffee production value chain is proposed as a plausible crop, identifying two main residues of interest: coffee pulp and coffee parchment skin.

A collaboration between BioMat and EDGY research groups.
