Biodegradable and compostable batteries for precision agriculture and decentralized energy systems (BIDEKO)

Project description:

The objective of BIDEKO project is to develop a new generation of small-scale primary batteries that are able to meet the energy needs of the upcoming upsurge of electronic devices in a sustainable manner.

The project will focus on implanting a disruptive battery development and production model based on circular economy principles and sustainability, from environmental, social and economic standpoints.

BIDEKO aims to develop batteries following ecodesign strategies to meet the life cycle of the product they are powering, particularly addressing key stages of the value chain such as raw materials selection, manufacturing, operation and end-of-life.

In this way, primary battery development will have sustainability as main priority, representing a change of paradigm with respect to currently main criteria based on performance and production costs.
